Vintage-Style Tudor Rose Brooch
Inspired by one of England’s most recognizable historic emblems, our Vintage-Style Tudor Rose Brooch brings the beauty of this centuries-old symbol to life in hand-cast pewter.
Layer upon layer of softly sculpted petals gives the rose wonderful depth and an intentionally old-world character. Rather than a perfectly uniform flower, the gently irregular petals curl and overlap, creating the look of a piece that might have been discovered among the treasures of another time. A richly textured center adds another level of detail, while the antiqued finish settles naturally into the recessed areas and highlights the sculptural quality of the design.
Hand cast in lead-free Britannia Pewter and individually hand finished in our shop, each brooch has subtle variations that are part of the character of a handmade piece.
Rich in history and beautifully dimensional, the Tudor Rose is a distinctive piece for anyone drawn to English history, Renaissance and Tudor-era design, or simply the timeless beauty of the rose.
This brooch measures 1-1/2" x 1-1/2".
Pin clasp backing.
History of the Tudor Rose
The Tudor Rose (also called the Union Rose) is the traditional heraldic emblem of England. When Henry Tudor took the crown of England from Richard III in battle, he brought about the end of the Wars of the Roses between the House of Lancaster (whose badge was a red rose) and the House of York (whose badge was a white rose). His mother was from the House of Lancaster;. On his marriage to Elizabeth of York of The House of York, Henry adopted the Tudor Rose badge conjoining the White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster.
