Huginn & Muninn Raven Kilt Pin
There is something a little different about our Raven Kilt Pin—and it begins with how it was created.
This raven started life as a simple ball of clay. It was sculpted entirely by hand, feather by feather, giving the finished piece a more organic character. Look closely and you'll find flowing lines, subtle irregularities, deep textures, and sculptural details that reflect the original hand-worked clay. Those differences are intentional; and are part of what makes this a distinctive designs.
The raven itself has carried powerful symbolism through the mythologies of many ancient cultures, including Celtic, Norse, Greek, Roman, and Pacific Northwest traditions. Often associated with intelligence, curiosity, wisdom, mystery, and transformation, few birds have inspired so many stories.
In Norse mythology, two ravens—Huginn and Muninn—belonged to Odin. Each day they flew throughout the world before returning to their master, bringing with them the knowledge and information they had gathered. Their names are commonly translated as Thought and Memory.
Ravens also hold an important place in Celtic tradition, where they are associated with wisdom, prophecy, battle, and the powerful goddess The Morrígan, a figure connected with fate, sovereignty, transformation, and war.
From that original clay sculpture, each Raven Kilt Pin is hand cast in lead-free pewter and individually hand finished in our shop. The antiqued finish settles into the deeply sculpted feathers and recesses, emphasizing the texture and giving every detail greater depth.
Measuring approximately 3-1/2" from beak to tail, the kilt pin is secured with two push pins with locking caps.
From a ball of clay to a finished piece of pewter, Huginn & Muninn retains the character of the original sculpture—a raven that looks unmistakably made by hand.
