The Goddess is an 18th century pewter pipe tamper in the shape of a elegant deity. This tamper is a reproduction taken from an original 18th century piece. A tamper is a blunt instrument with a base shaped like the top of a nail. While some are basic and utilitarian in nature - others are ornately shaped. The flat end of the tamper is used for tamping down tobacco when the bowl is being packed and for crushing the ash together to aid relighting. Tampers make a unique gift for recreational smokers.
