Mysterious, intelligent, and just a little otherworldly, the octopus has fascinated humans for thousands of years.
Images of octopuses appear as far back as the Bronze Age, including ancient Minoan art from Crete, where these remarkable sea creatures decorated pottery and other works. Later legends transformed them into monsters of the deep—enormous tentacled creatures powerful enough to drag ships beneath the waves.
The real octopus may be even stranger than the legends. It has three hearts, blue blood, and extraordinary intelligence, with much of its nervous system extending throughout its eight arms. Masters of camouflage, escape, and adaptation, octopuses are among the ocean's most remarkable creatures.
Symbolically, the octopus represents intelligence, creativity, adaptability, flexibility, focus, and untapped potential, a creature capable of finding its way through seemingly impossible situations.
Our octopus pin is hand cast in lead-free pewter, capturing the wonderful texture and curling movement of its eight arms. Wear it as a pin, add it to a collection, or as Paul discovered, give this clever little beastie a place of honor on your wall.
